Using the right products and following a proper aftercare routine are essential for maximising the benefits of your hair extensions.
Many shampoos, conditioners, and styling products not specifically designed for human hair extensions can cause dryness, tangling, and compromised bonds. It’s best to ask your hair extensions technician for their recommendations.
Regular scheduled maintenance appointments with your hair extension technician are essential to ensure the best possible experience with your hair extensions.
After Your Fitting
Hair Colouring
It’s not recommended to colour your hair extensions, as it may not yield the desired results and could compromise the quality of the hair, bonds, or beads. Any colouring, including the use of ‘silver’ or lightning shampoos, is done at your own risk. No responsibility is taken for damage or poor outcomes resulting from hair colouring gone wrong. If you do choose to colour your hair with extensions, ensure to keep the colour away from the extension bonds or beads.
Hair Brushing
When your extension hair is wet, use only a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush. Once dry, use a specialised hair extension brush designed to prevent snagging. Always support your bonds.
Washing & Drying Extensions
It’s recommended to wash your extensions twice a week. Before washing, ensure the hair is untangled and separate the bonds or beads at the root to prevent matting as the extensions grow down. Use only shampoo, conditioner, and heat protection specifically designed for hair extensions to avoid dryness, tangling, shedding, and compromised bonds.
Washing
Gently smooth shampoo down your extension hair to prevent tangling. Condition from the mid-lengths to the ends, avoiding the bonds. Wash your hair upright in the shower and pat dry with a towel, avoiding over-rubbing.
Drying
Apply a heat protection serum to damp hair, then dry the roots on a cool setting. Section your hair and blow dry each section using a round vent or hair extension brush. Avoid letting extensions dry naturally or rough-drying them. Ensure the root area is fully dry to prevent bacterial buildup.
Heat - Holidays - Sunbeds
When using a sunbed, protect your extensions by wrapping them in a towel. Avoid getting your extension hair wet in pools or the sea while on holiday to prevent drying, bond breakdown, or bead corrosion. Be cautious of blonde extensions, as chlorine or sun creams can cause discolouration. To maintain the colour of blonde extensions, avoid contact with chlorine or sun cream.
